NewPro POX 2K-Gearbox and Driveshaft Paint
Two-component paints for the interior coating of transmission housings made of various metals. Also suitable as a primer for external surfaces of gearboxes.
Substrates / surface preparation:
Substrates must be absolutely clean, dry and free of grease and dust.
- structural steel, sheet steel: Clean and roughen / degrease
- cast iron: (blast cleaning / sweeping)
- galvanized steel: ammoniacal tensid cleaning1 or sweeping
- stainless steel: (roughing up) cleaning / degreasing
- light / non ferrous metal: (eg. glass bead blasting)
- wood / wooden composite, mineral substrate: not intended
- plastics, old coatings, third party primers: following preliminary tests in own responsibility
1 dilute 1 l of ammonium hydroxide (25 % Vol-%) with 9 l water and add 5 ml of a liquid surfactant, clean the substrate with non-woven web and rinse with clear water.
HANDLING AND APPLICATION
Storage stability:
At least 6 months when both components are separately stored in original, un-opened packages at temperatures between 15 and 25°C (60 - 85°F).
Storage temperatures above 40° C / 104° F should be avoided, because reaction of the binder may change the hue and viscosity of the material. Opened containers must be sealed well and use up as soon as possible.
hardener: NewPro hardener PAA 520 Article no.: 0091-60002
mixing Ratio: by weight 7 parts of main component: 1 part of hardener
(by volume): 78 parts of main component: 22 parts of hardener
or.: 3,64 parts of main component: 1 part of hardener)
potlife: 4 - 6 hours at 20 - 23 °C (68° - 73°F)
A storage of pre-mixed mixtures longer than the specified pot life is not possible.
thinner: NewPro thinner EP Article no.: 0089-00090
application:
Before application, the color shade and the compatibility with the substrate should be tested. Object-, material and ambient temperature should not be below 15° C (49° F) and not above 25° C (77° F) and must be at least 5° above the dew point.
For smooth surfaces, spray methods can be used. Adjust spray parameters according to product specifications to avoid the need of adding thinners.
| Viscosity: | Nozzle diameter | Spray pressure | ||
(mm) | (mil) | (bar) | (psi) | ||
Airless spraying | not diluted | 0,3 – 0,5 | 12 – 20 | 30-100 | 1150 - 2200 |
Cup gun | not diluted | > 1,8 | ---- | > 2 | > 29 |
Brush/roller | Recommendation for porous / rough surfaces: Apply and smoothe a thin layer of undiluted mixture in professional way to avoid differences of film thickness depending on working direction. |
All values given are just examples, the actual settings are process-and systemdependent
theoretical spreading rate:
at 30 microns (1.2mils) dry film thickness 11.1 m²/kg = 18.0 m²/l mix
= 60 microns (2.2 mils) wet film = 090 g/m² (0.17 lbs/yd²) 6.0 yd²/lb = 97.7 yd²/gal mix
at 50 microns (2mils) dry film thickness 6.6 m²/kg = 10.8 m²/l mix
= 90 microns (3.7 mils) wet film = 150 g/m² (0.28 lbs/yd²) 3.6 yd²/lb = 58.6 yd²/gal mix
drying time: (at standard climate 23°C (73°F) / 50 % rel. humidity and adequate air circulation)
dust-dry → approx. 60 minutes
touch dry → approx. 04 hours.
overcoatable → approx. 04 - 8 hours (gearbox external surfaces)
loadable cured → approx. 03 days
Drying temperatures below 10°C / 50°F, relative humidity above 85% or too less air circulation increases the drying time significantly. Drying temperatures below 5°C / 41°F can cause film defects (blistering, loss of adhesion)
